ZERO gas. ZERO harmful chemicals. ZERO hassle.

Zerolawn’s service isn’t just healthy for your lawn, it’s healthy for your family and the environment.

Traditional lawn fertilizers and pesticides pose risks to water quality AND our health. A large percentage of these chemicals are either known or possible carcinogens and many are banned or restricted in other countries.

Use of lawn chemicals has also been linked to a higher risk of cancer in pets like dogs.

ZeroLawn’s approach to lawn care uses ZERO of these harmful chemicals. We only use natural and organic ingredients like corn gluten, iron, and bio-solid to give you a lush, green, healthy lawn.

The ZeroLawn lawn care timeline

Pick from multiple lawn care plans, or build your own

Spring cleanup - before April 1

Prior to April 1st, we’ll visit to rake, clean up, and remove any debris left from winter. We’ll also assess any damage and areas of your lawn that need special attention.

Dethatching - early April

Dethatching is a service that removes the buildup of dead plant material from the soil. This allows air, water, and nutrients to reach your soil. Dethatching also prevents disease and pests to help your grass flourish. Your lawn will typically be dethatched in the spring before the first mow.

Pre-emergent weed control - early April

Once soil temps reach 55 degrees, weeds and unwanted plants begin to sprout. We apply a pre-emergent to your lawn to prevent these weeds from germinating so they never have a chance to grow. Pre-emergents have no effect on established plants (your grass). In fact, they act as fertilizer for your existing lawn.

We only use natural corn gluten based products for pre-emergent weed control. They contain no harmful chemicals and are safe for people and pets .

4 fertilizer applications

Your lawn will receive 4 fertilizer applications timed to be most effective during the growing season. This is typically early April, mid May, late June, and late September. Your schedule may be slightly different if you have warm season grass species in your lawn.

We only use natural fertilizers made from organic materials. They slowly release nutrients into the soil giving your lawn longer term benefits without burning the grass or causing unnecessary runoff of chemicals. Our products are safe for people and pets and you can enter the lawn immediately after application.

Spot weed control

We’ll provide spot weed control throughout the season, or one complete application as needed. Timing varies depending on the specific needs of your yard.

For weed control, we use environmentally friendly iron-based products. They kill unwanted weeds in your lawn without harming the grass (iron nutrients actually give your grass a deeper green color). They also contain no harmful chemicals and are safe for people and pets.

You’ll get spot weed control treatments all season long as needed.

Core aeration - late September

Core aeration removes “cores” or “plugs” from your lawn. It looks like poking little holes all over your yard.

Aeration relieves compacted soil allowing air, water, and nutrients to soak in. We typically aerate early in the fall .

Overseeding - late September

Overseeding is planting grass seed directly into your existing lawn. Overseeding is typically done in the fall as there’s less chance of growing weeds with your new grass. Combining fall overseeding with spring pre-emergent weed control gives you the best chance for a weed-free lawn.

Fall overseeding will use grass seed suitable to the species and condition of your lawn. If you have certain warm season grass species that aren’t normally overseeded, we may substitute a different, more appropriate service.
